A Christmas Eve Wedding in Lichfield

I always love a December wedding – getting festive on the run up to Christmas! When Laura & David’s request for me to photograph their wedding on Christmas Eve in Lichfield dropped into my inbox I was super excited and I just had a feeling it would be a magical occasion.

Laura and David decided to get married on Christmas Eve as it was exactly a year to the date that they were engaged.  They booked Lichfield Registry Office in Staffordshire. They chose this particular venue as the surroundings are lovely with the opportunity for group photos in the Beacon Park and romantic portraits against the backdrop of Lichfield Cathedral.  The couple got married at 2pm which was the perfect time as the ‘golden hour’ was approaching when we shot the group photos and portraits after the ceremony.

Laura wore the most stunning wedding dress completely covered in white sequins.  She told me that every time she got it out a home to show friends and family, after she would hide it away again only for David to find a rogue sequin and ask where they kept appearing from?! Obviously not wanting to spoil the surprise excuses were creatively made.

The bridesmaids wore dark blue dresses embellished with sequins on the top and the flower girls wore white dresses with cosy fur stoles.  The men wore blue suits.  The bridal bouquet and bridesmaid’s flowers and were in deep shades of red to match Laura’s classic red lips.  All the styling matched the season perfectly and the sequins glittered in the afternoon winter sun.

We took the full group photo and confetti run in the memorial gardens next to Stow Pool.  As I always tell my bride and grooms if you want an epic confetti run (and photo) provide LOTS of confetti! The type that floats around in the air for a while is perfect.  Either dried petals or like Laura and David used big round paper pieces.  They chose really colourful confetti and set against a dark background it really looks fabulous! I like to keep group photos a fun and relaxed as possible and always take the opportunity to sneak in some candid, documentary snaps in between each line up.

After the group photos we wandered up through the old cobbled streets around Lichfield Cathedral.  The thing I love about couples getting married in town is how passers-by congratulate the couple as we walk around – seeing newlyweds always makes everyone’s day!

The couple also brought colourful smoke bombs for their couple pics.  As it was quite a still day the smoke hung in the air and looked awesome.
